Why I Love Weddings:
It is definitely a mix - as a photographer, I love the moments when I get to stand on chairs and turn myself into Spiderman to "get the shot" or the angle that I really want. As a recent bride though I love getting to experience other couples' joys and passions during special moments of love and hope, and hearing how meaningful that is for their families. Being able to capture even just a few of those fleeting special moments for a couple and their family is an honor and privilege for me. Every wedding I work in, although each is unique, reminds me of my own special day, and I hope to make every couple as happy as I was the day that I got to say "I Do!"
A Little Bit About Myself:
Hi, I'm Mary. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, I developed a passion for photography in high school and started photographing in college in the mid-'90s with film (before digital photography was a "thing"). I learned how to develop my own film and prints in a darkroom and studied all the masters for inspiration. I even photographed a few weddings at that time - Yes, on black and white film! And I produced some exquisitely beautiful images from those early weddings that I shot. Then, I moved to upstate New York in 2000 and continued to shoot fine art black and white photography and weddings throughout the years, eventually utilizing digital technology (you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!) I moved from NY to the Bay Area of California in 2012 and lived there for 10 years. I met my wonderful husband and had my gorgeous daughter there. We all, plus our two cuddly kitties, moved to New York in 2021 and live in Westchester County.
Since then two of my photographs were purchased for the permanent collection of the Albany Institute of History and Art and my photography was featured in different publications including Upstate Art and Fashion Magazine, and the Ft. Lauderdale Cultural Quarterly.
Most Memorable Wedding Moment:
I feel like I've experienced so many memorable wedding moments. I would say that overall, my favorite wedding moment is when the couple seals the deal with a wonderful kiss. Whether they've been together only a short time or many years, you can feel such intense love and excitement on that day expressed in that fun and passionate kiss!
Videography/Photography Style:
My style is mostly a mix of lifestyle and photojournalistic. I generally love to capture those candid, unexpected moments that really stand out as unique photos, but also want to create beautiful portfolios for a couple that will have all of the images that represent what is important to them and their families.
Other Interests:
When not shooting weddings, I love spending time with my daughter and husband; exploring the Hudson Valley and Westchester region. I also love snowboarding, planning our family Halloween costumes many months in advance, traveling, and trying new restaurants with my favorite two people.
